E-Mail addresses and domain names

Hey folks,

have you been on professional websites of companies or organizations with their own domain name and yet if you want to send an email to them, it is something like company@gmail.com ? How do you feel about this? Frankly I think this is very unprofessional and my only guess is, that the administrator of that website has no clue that his hosting package also includes proper email-addresses in the format contact@yourcompanyname.com. Maybe it's just me, I don't know but if I see this on a website of a company it is a big minus, my whole impression of this company is lower than before. If you are afraid of Spam, there are means, which effectively work against this nuisance. One software you can check out is this one here, which helps you with rules and a learning mode. That means you are teaching the software, what is ham and what is spam and after a short learning period, the results get better and better.

Thoughts on hosting

Well, let me share some thoughts regarding hosting. You SHOULD get your own webspace if you want to run it professionally. Don't use any free webspace with weird sounding, endless domain names. Don't be stingy and invest a few bucks! There are a whole lot of packages available. For a start you just take a small package, if you consider using Joomla, remember the need for a database in your package!
The idea is to create your own website, then create websites for your customers. You do the job, you charge the customer. Charge them more than you pay for their package, since you will administrate the whole site anyway. If you have reached a certain amount of customers, you might want to think about getting a dedicated server.
The advantage is simple: You are more flexible and able to tailor your packages according to your individual customers needs. Moreover the MySQL - databases are unlimited (of course there is a memory and CPU constraint at a certain point of time).
One CON about an own server is the maintenance. Since I am not a Linux-guru, I decided to get a "managed" server. This option is more expensive than a "root"-server, but the provider will install all relevant updates and security patches for me automatically and even assist me on technical problems. Make sure you have the full root access though and not limited user access rights.

You should do some research for providers before you choose to get a package. Let me tell you something, you still have to have luck....or not having bad luck. Reason? You should be able to find a good hoster due to top ten lists, reviews etc. But signing up with the best hoster doesn't mean you won't have problems....just like signing up with a cheap hoster does not necessariliy mean your site will be offline most of the time and the service sucks.
It's not easy, well out of my experience I can say that I have been with both and had my fair share of happy times and not so happy times with them.
Overall you should still get the better service with the quality and more expensive hoster, but if you run into a huge problem, your site might be down just like any other.
If you take a look at the reviews of those hosters, you will for sure find few bad reviews within the top hosters as well. People claiming that their server has been offline for days, the service team is not responding at all etc. At the same time people replying, that this is the best hoster they have ever been with.

Make your choice, but make it wise....any questions, please leave a comment.

Do you know Joomla ? Lets talk about CMS

Individuals, companies, authors, publishers...almost everyone can take advantage of Joomla. ever wanted to create a website but had no clue about HTML and how to do it?

Let's start from scratch. You have an idea and want to design a website. Here is what you do: Get familiar with Photoshop (best way is using this because Photoshop is just HUGE. It is the best tool in this category, I have been working with it for years and yet I have to say I know maybe about 60% of its capabilities..
So if you want to have quick results, you should try that Book and read through it first. I won't tell you the golden rules of website design, because this would definitely be too much for this blog here, so let's assume you have read some tutorials on website design, the Do's and Dont's etc. After scribbling some layouts, you will convert this into Photoshop, then later "slice" the graphics according to the layout, save them as individual graphic files an later put them together into a HTML-editor like Dreamweaver.

You created your menu buttons, put them into HTML, linked them to your content, so far so good. You bring your website online and then, after a while you figure you would need another menu item. What do you need to do? Go back to Photoshop, create that one button (2 if you work with rollover), bring them into your HTML layout and if you have bad luck, that additional button will let your whole layout explode...

Especially if you design websites for customers, this is a pain in the a...because they like to keep changing their minds like crazy and that means a lot of additional work for you.

So what do you do then? Think about a system, which lets you create a menu automatically, which lets you add menu items within minutes? Sounds good? Yes it does and it's not a dream, it's just a Content Management System (CMS). Over the years I really liked to work with is Joomla. It is not too huge and complicated like Typo 3 but has all the features one needs and comes with a whole lot of extensions due to its popularity. There are thousands of websites offering help, commercial services (like template design, installation etc.)

But back to where we have started...you set it up in a few easy steps, choose one of the hundreds of free template designs, which can easily be customized to your own needs. Of course you will have an advantage here also, if you know the Photoshop Tricks of the Pros, because then your sites will really look like made by a design studio! You don't need to necessarily work in your HTML Editor, you can do everything online. You can enter text, pictures, create menu items, create different menues, submenues etc. You even have a access rights management, where you can give your customer the right to update the "news" page for instance. This gives you another advantage, as more and more customers are asking for that. If they want you to do all the work, even better! You have less work, can achieve things very easily and can still charge the customer.

This was just a glimpse of the whole thing...there are some downsides also. One would be that you need a MySQL Database on your webspace, second would be that you have to keep updating the software with patches and security updates. Its popularity has made it a target of hackers at times, so if you keep the system not updated for a long time, you might get hacked, just like a Windows computer.

If you want to know more about:

just leave your comments, I can throw in a whole lot more information for you. If you have anything specific, just keep asking!

cheers!
Fat Loss is a benefit, not the goal of exercise or training, even though all of us want to be lean. Just don’t focus on it too much, focus on those things that you want to have the ability to do. Fat loss is the reduction of body fat, whereas weight loss allows for only a small reduction in body fat initially; then you start breaking down muscle tissue and losing water weight. Your primary goal should be to lose fat, while you maintain and/or increase your lean muscle mass. Fat loss is usually limited to the face, trunk, and upper extremities. Simultaneously, fat hypertrophy occurs in the lower extremities. Try This! and you will see results within days!

another thing I have missed out...domain names...

I can tell you..I'm kind of frustrated actually....years ago, when no one cared about the internet yet, I have been checking out domain names and YES, they were all available. It was back in 1996 I guess and that time - too bad- I didn't have any cash to buy it. If had had borrowed the money then, I would be rich today!
Since I missed out this chance of making money with domain names, I don't want you to have the same experience and even though it seems like the market is bloated, there are still ways to earn money with domain names. click here to check it out.
